A Legacy of Excellence Since 1973
Anglican Senior High School, Kumasi — affectionately known as KASS or Super KASS — is a co-educational public senior high school situated in Asem, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Founded in 1973, the school has grown to enrol over 2,800 students with a staff of more than 120 dedicated educators.
Both present and past students are known as Disciples— a name that reflects the school’s commitment to producing excellent scholars who exhibit strong moral character, determination, and integrity.
As a Category B school with a double-track system and both day and boarding facilities, KASS provides a structured, supportive environment where students from across Ghana receive a quality education grounded in Anglican values.
Journey Through the Decades
From a theological training site to one of Ghana’s most respected secondary schools — the story of KASS spans nearly a century.
Site acquired from the Amakom chief by the English Church Mission (E.C.M.) to establish an institution for training clergy in the Gold Coast.
St. Augustine's Theological College established on the site, run by monks of the Benedictine Order from Nashdom Abbey, England.
Anglican Training College (Anglico) established as the fore-runner institution of KASS.
Second Republic overthrown; new government orders training colleges to close. Anglican Training College listed for closure.
Staff petition granted — Anglican Training College converted to Anglican Secondary School. Rev. Fr. P.D. Aggrey becomes first Headmaster. School opens as co-educational.
School stops accepting girls as boarders.
KASS invited to National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) for the first time.
KASS reaches the NSMQ national finals.
Mrs. Rebecca Tetteh appointed as Headmistress — first female to lead the school.
The School Crest
Every element of the KASS crest carries deep meaning, reflecting the school’s faith, heritage, and values.
The Shield
The golden shield with purple outline represents the “shield of faith” from Ephesians 6:16. It is a symbol of defence, security, and the spiritual foundation upon which the school was built.
Bishop’s Mitre
The Anglican bishop’s mitre symbolises the school’s affiliation with the Anglican Church. Sitting upon the Akan stool, it represents peace, harmony, and unity between the Church and society through education.
The Akan Stool
The indigenous Akan male stool at the centre of the crest represents the contribution of traditional authorities to the school’s establishment and growth — including the provision of land, guidance, and encouragement.
